The tales of a student beginning the summer before his One L year.

I love that the Senate is really taking to this judicial nominee craziness. It makes for so much drama. One note: I was visiting a friend in his Senate office (no names to protect the innocent, or even the guilty) yesterday, and as always they have c-span 2 on. When I asked him about what was going on with Miguel Estrada (what they were debating at the time) he just shrugged his shoulders and said "i dunno." Your doing an excellent job buddy, I am sure your senator would be pleased with your level of attention. Bashman has also been following this matter closely.

I really dont think Estrada is ever going to make it passed that cloture vote and make it to the DC District Appeals Court. Yesterday, there were only 55 votes for cloture when they need 60 for a vote to take place. To my count this is the 6th time, this cloture vote has come up and it makes me laugh every time.

Then today William Pryor Jr. was brought up for nomination to the Appeals Court in the Eleventh Distirict. That failed, getting only 53 of the necessary 60 votes.

Guess what is happening tomorrow, more judicial nominations, let the games roll on.

Well if you have been keeping up in the world of Blawgs then you would have read the presidential candidate Howard Dean's guest blogging on Professor Lessig's webpage. The entries were a little short, but that is understandable considering there were over 100 comments a day and he is trying to run for the countries top office. Don't worry Howie, you still have my support.

Ever since I started writing a couple of months ago I have been plagued by a feeling that I have no anonimity. Not that I really need any, I have never really said anything controversial, but I was curious how lawyers, judges, and professors handle being public blawgers and professionals.

Apparently I am not the first on to wonder about this because I found Curmudgeonly Clerk has spent some serious time on this debate. There is another entry on the subject here. He has really taken an in depth look using many hyperlinks to other legal minds. I realize that there is really almost no way to keep complete anonymity if you write about any aspect of your life because everyone does so many damn internet searches you are bound to be found out.

It seems that in light of recent internet mishaps employee blog censorship is somewhat necessary even your blog is not related to your work. Which goes back to what i have always said, never put anything in writing (wait a minute, but, I know, I know).

More importantly, in reference to other blogs, how do you have the time to read so many other pages and write so damn much. Truely remarkable!

Check it out, US forces MAY have caught the Ace of Hearts, his son Uday. What do they mean may? Isnt the whole point of the deck of cards so that we will KNOW right away whether or not it was him?

Also there was a political cartoon, which I cant find online that had sparked some controversy. It depicted W being shot by politics. It was a mock up of the famous photo of the South Vietnamese officer who murdered a prisoner in the street at point-blank range. The Secret Service found this cartoon threatening. However, the cartoon is actually pro-Bush, not anti-Bush. Bush himself is being shot by politics. This implies that he is being attacked not by something real, but by the wrongdoings of Washington itself. The cartoonist is actually a Bush supporter. Silly Secret Service, Trix are for kids

I recently got internet in DC, so I hope my posts will start up again. It seems that this page has dropped some of its purpose since I have decided not to go to law school this year. I had dreamed of a page with quirky stories that only a law student would understand. Something that prospective, current, and past law students could look at with fondness. But alas, that will just have to be put off a year.

Anyway, if you dont already know this the Ways and Means Committee is the most prestigious in the House of Representatives--it is where the big dogs hang out. Yesterday, these big dogs came to play when Chairman Bill Thomas called the Capitol Police to throw his Democratic colleagues from the nearby library (where they went when they left the committee meeting). The Capitol Police where so nervous that they called the Seargent at Arms for help. You can read more about the reactions of both sides in this article.

Harvard's $17.5 Billion with a "B" endowment continues to come under fire when Rachel Fish submitted a 130 page research paper on why the School of Divinity should not accept a $2.5 million check from President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan. The Sheik also funds think tank, Zayed Center for Coordination and Follow-up that has previously endorsed anti-semetic thought and Holocaust denial and disinformation. Here is a WSJ article about Rachel's work.

In a related story here is an ADL article about Holocaust denial. According to the article it is against French law to "to deny historical events that have been designated as 'crimes against humanity.' I was curious how others felt about this law or any information about its use other than on Roger Garaudy who is cited in the article.

Whoa, I forgot how frustrating it is to find a job that you like. I dont know if I can deal with the mentality of send out 100 resumes get one interview. Please people, if you would just agree to meet with me I would make a lasting impression (possibly even a positive one).

So if you are looking for a recent college graduate who is willing to work his ass off for you, email me.

Thanks!

Sometimes in an instant all your plans change, they are for me. I think that I am taking the year off. I have decided to take a job this year instead of going to law school. I am not rethinking my decision to go to law school, rather when I should go. I think a year in the job market will give a perspective I have never had before. Plus, now I will be able to laugh at all my friends when they tell me horror tales from class. Suckers.

In legal news Girls Gone Wild is getting sued. I am sure this is not a new thing for the company. One late night, I watched one of their paid advertisements on TV and they show how dirty they are about getting girls to get naked. The head guy was really getting pissed at his crew when they would film ugly/fat girls (it was pretty funny). However, with all these antics televised I am sure they get sued on a daily basis, which must make a lot of money for some attorney. I wonder if they have an in-house guy? And then when he meets people and they ask what he does he says, "I am the attorney for girls gone wild, wanna go to a party at snoop's?"
